I was reassured today that the Oilers HAVE NO INTEREST at this time on moving Dubnyk.

You do know that your gut isn't a insider right? You should stop listening to it.

Gagner, 2013 2nd rounder (ANA) sounds pretty fair to me. Don't know how the Avs would feel. They'd probably want another pick or prospect to sweeten the deal a little more. Can't see really see them trading him though but one can only hope

Ok so I love how you make a clear and good point about why Gagner isn't the second line center you want. But the Avs have their own smaller more talented offensive center in Duchene...

What would we use Gagner for? We don't need him, we need Justin Shultz... Or Nail Yakupov. Colorado's only two areas of need are a young top pairing potential offensive D-man, and a scoring top line winger.

We are set everywhere else... Honestly Phoenix and Colorado are probably the best fit as trade partners involving O'Reilly. The other one IMO is Anaheim with Ryan.

(Not saying O'Reilly straight will get us Ryan either.)

I spent much of the day calling around my buddies trying to find out if the Roberto Luongo to the Oilers for Sam Gagner had any truth to it.

You are allowed to call the Remand Centre directly?

Richard Cloutier: Oilers Not Interested in Luongo, Might Be Interested in O'Reilly?
- Maxbone

You got me hooked during lockout. So as a Hawkfan, I now read your blogs regularly. Since you are Spotswoode, I want you to proclaim this from the mountaintops please.

Regarding Luongo. No matter the chatter, there is only one way Luo goes to anyone, that is in exchange for more bad salary. And even then, it will only occur for a trial basis. That is the acquiring team will only kick his tires for a playoff run then possibly buy him out. That is why you do not offer much up. Maybe conditional stuff.

Nobody in their right mind will offer much of value up for Lou. Not because he is not good or would help a team it is because of my next line, which I would like to hear muttered in hockeys mainstream media...or anywhere for Gods sake.

That is regardless of what Lou could bring you, there is the risk of not being remembered as the idiot who signed him to that original deal, but rather the bigger fool who traded for that deal. That is what hangs this up. Lou, great guy, great goalie, no personal attack. Who wants to hang their hat on trading for the original bad contract?

Canucks really cannot afford to take back too much in cap as they are already in cap hell going into next season. Not sure how they resign 10 players with only 4M space and only one buyout. I have a feeling in the end, Gillis will be forced to trade lou for picks straight up.

So O'Reilly has two 20 some point seasons, and one 55 point season..

Gagner has a handful of 45 point seasons or so..

Haven't watched O'Reilly much..
does he hit? Can't find his statistics anywhere online, maybe cuz he's got no contract in N/A right now.

Is he an upgrade to Gagner? Maybe slightly, but like you said since Gagner and RNH are similar "type" of players we need a gritty messier type for second line center.

Is O'Reilly that guy? I still prefer signing Jason Arnott for this season, then see who's available at the trade deadline or free agency and really go for it..we can afford one more high priced forward may as well go all out.

If EDM wants to give him a year to see if he fits in the long term plan then why did they give him a 2yr deal?

Also if there is a way that you guys could get O'Reilly, Make it happen.

Think of O'Reilly as a young Mike Peca. Forceful, good on PP and PK faces the toughest competition and succeeds. The Avs would probably want Gagner and a 1st at least. Think when the Sabres traded Peca to the Islanders for Connolly and Pyatt. At the time it was thought a great trade. Connolly a former 5th overall and Pyatt former 8th overall. The problem like Cloutier said Sam doesn't seem to be forceful but rather passive in the rush and the may drive the price up for OReilly. Believe me anyone trading for him will pay through the nose like the Avs overpaying for Varlamov

Gagner and a 1st would be an overpayment, but I think O'Reilly is the type of player 15 teams would be interested in if available...So the Oilers would need to overpay.

The Avs must deal O'Reilly to Edmonton, because his first name is "Ryan". It's a rule somewhere in the new CBA that the Oilers get every player named "Ryan".
